The Hero section provides an option to include a full-width autoplaying video to have some dynamism to your page. If you want to add a Vimeo or YouTube video, you'll need to add a regular Video section.

This section is best for short looping videos. We strongly recommend using a video that's no more than 30 seconds long and that's under 10MB in size.

<aside> ⚠️ MP4s are reliable, load rapidly and tend to work with most mobiles (but are still not guaranteed to work with all). Shopify currently limits videos to 1 minute maximum length and 20MB file size (read more about Shopify file limits here). Themes cannot override these limitations. We also can’t override mobile browser settings, as these are rules applied manually on the physical device by the device owner.

1. Add a Hero section:

The Hero section can be added to any template (except the Checkout).

  1. From the Shopify admin, go to the Theme editor (Online Store > Themes > Customize)
  2. Go to the template where you want to add the Hero section
  3. Click on "Add section", and scroll down the available sections until you find "Hero"

2. Add your video file link:

In the "Video" input field, upload or choose your video:

<aside> 🔇 No sound? Videos used in your Hero video section don’t play sound. They are auto-playing videos that are designed to sit in the background to add a moving visual element. If you wish to feature videos that play sound, you can instead use the Video section. Browsers don’t allow sound to be active by default on auto-playing videos. Most browsers will block the video, which can cause issues. Also, it can be an unpleasant surprise for a customer to land on a site and be greeted with a loud sound that they didn’t expect to hear.
